5 out of 5 stars ktaylor   January 7, 2009
I bought this for my 5 1/2 yr old daughter and she loves it. If your kid enjoys arts and crafts then they will enjoy. My daughter did get a little frustrated with the beads rolling out of place sometimes but overall she enjoyed playing with it.

4 out of 5 stars Much better than I thought   December 30, 2008
I had read so many bad reviews about the Pixos that I resisted buying it for a long time, but my daughter was so eager to have it, that I finally caved in and figured $20 wasn't too much to waste. But I am pleasantly surprised with the toy. It is a neat concept, and my daughter has been enjoying it a lot. She's only 4 and still can use the pen. I don't understand all the bad reviews... I admit it isn't a breeze the forst time you use it, but you get the hang of it pretty soon. It's a lot easier using the pen than moving the beads with your fingers. The trick is to hold the pen upright and close to the spot where you want the bead, and it seems to work fine. It does take a few hours to dry, but not days like some have said. We have made about 6-8 pieces and let them dry for 4-6 hours and not had any problems with them breaking apart. I found the setting up of the pen and filling it with beads to be a little tedious at first and still have to do it for my daughter, but after that it's all hers. It is a fun and relatively easy activity!

1 out of 5 stars Very Dissapointed   December 28, 2008
This toy was for my 4 year old and 6 year old. The way it works is that a design template is slid under a pixeled device grooved to allow the balls to sit. You dispense the balls into a pen (which isn't even needed) and then dispense the balls one at a time over the template design based on the colors.

After you have finished your design (by the way, don't bump it or the balls fly all over the place as there is really nothing holding them into place) you then spray water on the design to make the pieces stick together. You are to wait 10 minutes while it dries. After 15-20 minutes you can then try CAREFULLY to pull the pieces off. You have to wind up drying the back of it off because it becomes very sticky.

If you are successful then you still have to be very careful with it when you are done because the weight of it will make it fall forward or backward. This also makes the little stands useless as well that come with it.

The first design we did, used almost all of one color which limited the usage of what designs we could do without buying more supplies for another $12.

The concept of this toy is cool but the actual result of it is very dissapointing.

1 out of 5 stars Waste of money   December 28, 2008
My 4 year old really wanted pixos so we gave them a try. They don't work. You need to spray a lot of water and it takes hours to dry and even then they don't stay together.

1 out of 5 stars a sticky mess   December 27, 2008
what a stick mess this toy is! I bought it thinking it would be like perling beads, without the iron. The 10 minute wait is a joke, they are all just super wet and STICKY... I have no idea how long it will take to dry and we all have sticky fingers from trying to get them out of the tray after the 10 minutes passed (following directions!). If they have to dry overnight (that is my plan now) then it really limits how much a child can do as it uses the tray to dry (each package comes with 2 trays)
It is good for fine motor skills, we had no problems with the pen.
Get perling beads instead, easier, less mess and headache.
