Amazon.com Product Description Children can let their imaginations run wild as they build towers and towns with this 60-piece standard unit block set. The 60 large, classroom-sized blocks have a classic look and are easy for little fingers to grasp. Ideal for ages three to five, this block set stimulates children for hours as they engage in imaginative play. Naturally Finished for a Classic Look Wooden blocks have been around for centuries and make an excellent tool to teach basic math concepts, organizational skills, sequential skills, and spatial relations. It is no surprise that blocks are found in almost every pre-school and kindergarten classroom. Youngsters become the architect of their own world as they fit pieces together to form their vision. This open-ended play set stimulates creativity and hones basic motor skills. Each set features a large variety shapes and sizes including arches, columns, squares, rectangles, triangles, cylinders, and circles, as well as basic, half, and double unit blocks. This block set is crafted to the standard unit block size (1-1/2-by-2-by-5-inches) and constructed from Rubberwood, a resilient hardwood. The blocks are big, chunky, and easy for kids to grasp and build with. Smoothly sanded surfaces tantalize fingertips and create a handsome natural aesthetic. Best of all, when the child finishes constructing their masterpiece, all the pieces store neatly into a wooden storage box. There is no limit to the types of fortresses the child can build with these blocks. This deluxe set even contains pillars, buttresses, gothic circles, and half-circles for advanced architecture. As an added bonus, the storage box doubles as a building platform. Children and parents have fun as they complete projects together. Parents can purchase another set and add to the amusement. An essential for any child's toy box, these blocks are sturdy, durable, and beautiful enough to put on display. The box measures 15-by-12-1/2-by-15-1/4 inches. What's in the Box 60 solid wood pieces and wooden storage box.

Just what we were looking for! Big Blocks! January 6, 2009 These blocks are fantastic. My 2 year-old son had been given a different set of wooden blocks for his birthday, but the blocks were so tiny they were practically useless. They were much too small for him to try to build with.
I had been wanting to get a set of old-school wooden blocks like these for my son for a long time, but had a hard time finding them. I remembered playing with similar blocks in elementary school and having a great time with them. And Mister Rogers often plays with classic blocks like these on his show.
I was delighted to find these blocks on Amazon. Got them on sale for $29.99 with free Super Saver shipping. A fantastic deal! These blocks are the standard, large wooden blocks. My son plays with these almost daily, which is a much better track record than most of his other toys. I know he will continue to get a lot of use from these, and when he's older I think we'll buy the architectural set (also by Melissa and Doug) to allow him greater flexibility in building. I really like Melissa and Doug toys, and these blocks were a great deal! (Make sure to watch for free shipping. The blocks are heavy, so shipping can be expensive otherwise.)
Great Blocks! January 6, 2009 Loved the blocks. Our 4 year old and 1 year old love them all the same. We were a bit worried about the blocks due to some of the reviews and their comments about the wood filler so we only ordered one set. After it arrived we inspected the blocks and were happy to discover they had no filler and very durable. With the free shipping and quality it was a great investment!
Oldie but goldie January 6, 2009 These blocks provided great "floor time" for grandfather and grandson. Granddad built and the 18 mo. old grandson knocked them over with a "blam". The blocks were smooth, heavy enough to be stacked, and varied enough to make many architectural combinations possible. The 18 mo. old spent great amounts of time stacking and restacking (and "blamming")the blocks. The storage box was also a great learning tool as our grandson tried many arrangements to get the blocks stored after playtime.
Good toy January 6, 2009 I bought this for my almost-4-year-old for Christmas. Both he and his dad enjoy playing with the blocks, and they are good and heavy. Amazon.com had the best price by far, with free shipping!
Good Quality Blocks December 31, 2008 I purchased these blocks along with the Melissa and Doug architectural blocks for my 3-year-old son for Christmas 2008. He builds "roads" with these blocks and makes ramps by putting the storage box upside down and using the wedge blocks. The storage box upside down also works as a great building platform. The quality of these blocks meets my expectations. They are sanded very smooth and are durable for years and years of play. When my children are done playing with these, I am hoping to store them away for my grandchildren some day to also play with them.
